AARP Smart Driver Course
This Month at the Chetco Activity Center

Remaining 2017 Dates for this class are:

Thursday, November 16

Each week day you can play a variety
of games, puzzles and activities
in the lounge downstairs at the Center.
Mondays the primary game is "Hand & Foot," a North American card game related to Canasta, in which each player is dealt two sets of cards - the hand, which is played first, and the foot, which is played when the hand has been used up.

Tuesdays friends gather to play Scrabble and other card games. A group of friends gather in Room B to share crafting, sewing, knitting, quilting, crochet and other hand work they have done or want to do. Many come with questions and find teachers there. Occasionally this group produces a group project, such as a quilt. Calling themselves the "Sew & Sews," they meet at 10:00. Come to meet them this week.

Wednesdays the main game of the day is Pinochle, a trick-taking card game for two to four players and played with a 48 card deck. Derived from the card game Bezique, players score points by trick-taking and also by forming combinations of cards into melds  Each hand is played in three phases: bidding, melds, and tricks. The standard game today is called "partnership auction pinochle." We also play Dominoes on Wednesdays

Thursdays the main game on this day is Mahjong. If you have ever wanted to learn to play this game, visit the Lounge on Thursdays. There is always a group teaching one another and learning together. Mahjong is a card game that originated in China. Four players play the game using numbered tiles or cards. In all, there are 144 tiles, of which 36 tiles are in the Bamboo suit, 36 in the Circle suit, 36 in the Character suit, 16 Wind tiles, 12 Dragon tiles, and 8 bonus tiles (4 Flowers and 4 Seasons).

Fridays, you can play Rummy with known and new friends every week. This is a card game notable for similar gameplay based on the matching cards of the same rank or sequence and same suit. The basic goal any form of rummy is to build melds which consist of sets, three or four of a kind of the same rank, or runs, three or more cards in sequence, of the same suit.

Sundays, from 11:00 to 2:00, Join a group of friends for a terrific and fun game of Pickleball at the Brookings-Harbor High School Gym. If you don't know what Pickleball is yet, imagine a low-impact, easier version of tennis that is fun, quick and easy to learn and play. Show up at 11:00 and this great group of devotees will show you how to play the game and soon you will be devoted too.
